Fred Buffington

Age 79, of Mayfield Heights, OH. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Fred Oliver Bu?ngton. He passed away at home on March 9, 2026. He was born on January 10, 1947 to the late Fred and Gabrielle (nee Primeau) Bu?ngton in Painesville Ohio.
Fred spent his formative years in Cleveland Heights OH, Louisville KY, Mount Prospect IL, and back to Ohio, where he graduated from Cleveland Heights High School in 1965. He proudly served 4 years in the USAF from 1967 to 1971, including a 13-month tour in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War.
He worked mostly as a machinist in the Cleveland area until his retirement. A sports enthusiast, Fred played competitive softball into his 30s, and also enjoyed golfing and bowling. He was a lifelong Browns, Indians, and Buckeyes fan.
Fred is survived by his siblings, Kathleen Learman (Fred, deceased), Joan Bu?ngton, Thomas Bu?ngton (Teri), and Richard Bu?ngton (Donna), and many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on July 26, 2026 from 4 to 7 p.m., at Mulligans Sports Grille, 6131 Highland Rd., Highland Hts., Ohio.
Military interment will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Rd., Seville, OH on July 27, 2026 at 10:45 a.m.

my dear cousin,great guy played golf and baseball together for many years went into the Airforce together in 1967 will be sorely missed

My 1st "Best Friend" , "Freddie Buffington". Lived 2 doors from me in Cleveland Heights. Great Guy and good friend growing up. Remmeber so many fun times we had, Good athlete and enjoyed playing in all types of sports. Lost contact with him after I moved to Florida. Deep Sympathy to all his Family. Rest in peace my brother. .
