Remember David from 11th grade AP English as a top student with charisma but also humility. With offers from several Ivy League schools, we assumed he would go far. I'm so sad to learn of his death. May his memory be a blessing...

Trudy,   David was the "best man among us".  Quite a guy.  Smart,  funny,  humble as you say,  and who can forget his close up magic..   The link to the article you posted does not seem to work for me.   Would you check the link?   Thanks so much.   See you later this summer?

Best Regards,  Jim Becker

Jim is absolutely right: David was a singular guy - so bright, so accomplished, and so self-effacing in light of all his achievements. We knew each other well at Wiley - were often on stage together with me playing the piano and David doing magic tricks. I remember one he did with razor blades and he cut himself pretty badly in the middle of a trick, and only those of us onstage could see him bleeding while he kept thrrowing out lines to the audience about what a klutz he was. We kept in touch a bit after Heights - I saw him when we were inducted into the Alumni Hall of Fame, sadly he was in a wheelchair, the result of a car accident on top of some degenerative condition.  I had fallen the day before and was on crutches - and there we were - representing the Class of '65 - looking like war veterans: all we needed was someone playing the fife and drums and a tattered flag in the breeze.  David was plagued with miserable health but was unremittingly cheerful, upbeat, and just the greatest guy in the world. It's tragic that his life had to be so difficult at the end, but his indomintable spirit lives on for many of us privileged to call him a friend.
