These are the classmates I remember.  Not the superb athletes or class beauties that everybody always remembers but the "Average Joes" (or "Average Kivins") who walked the halls, lived their lives, and did the best they could in the maelstrom of adolesence.

I think Kivin was the manager of the state champion swim team in 1965.  A close friend at the time swam for that title team and I followed my friend's career closely. Using today's terms, Kivin was "swept up in the incidental intelligence" surrounding those talented swimmers and I doubt I spoke more than a sentence or two to him during those days.  But I remember him, nonetheless.  He had his time in the sun with that team - even if it was the reflected light from Jim Becker, Art Brandt, the Grant Brothers, or others.  I could see the pride Kivin took in being a part.  As I look back, I believe I was happy for him although it has taken until now to understand how he could enjoy a lesser position - instead of standing on the podium with a trophy.

I think one might be shaped by being average as much as one is shaped by being a state champion.  Some never accept that lot - or dwell on it far too long.  This is why I post this comment in memory of Kivin Langman.  He seemed to accept his life on life's terms at an early age, knowing where he fit.  There are a lot more of us "Average Joes" than there are superstars.  If we're lucky, eventually we learn.

May Kivin Langman rest in peace.

Kivin and I lifted weights together. He was always positive and a inspiration. RIP Kivin

Rest In Peace, Kivin.  He was the person who persuaded me around 7th grade that the only correct spelling is "Kivin," and that all the "Kevin's" of the world spell their names wrong.

Hey Bill....well said. Think you said it all. I remember Kivin, he had a great sense of Humor, an all around "Good Guy". He may not have won a trophy but he contributed to sucess. He didn't go around being a cry baby loser. He was a Stand Up Guy. Like yourself I didn't have a lot of conversations with him, but was proud to know him. Rest in Peace Kivin.

Submitted Respectfully,

Chuck Peterman, Class of "65"

Yes, Kivin was the Manager of the Swim Team in 65.   I remember when we were down in Columbus for the State meet staying at the Olentangey Inn (right next to the railroad tracks ).  The swimmers were all shaving their legs for the races and Kivin took the clippers and shaved a "H" in each leg.  He took good care of us. May he rest in peace.

Jim

Anybody know anything about his life after Heights?
