Richard Leo Kohn of Fountain Hills, Arizona, passed away in Phoenix, Arizona, on November 14, 2025, at the age of 78. He was born on June 18, 1947, in Utica, New York and spent his younger years in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. After graduating from high school, he joined the Army in 1969 and served honorably for 3 years, including in Vietnam, where he performed maintenance on helicopters. During his time of service, he was awarded the Vietnam Campaign Medal, 2 Overseas Bars, Sharpshooter M14, Air Medal W Oak Leaf Cluster, National Defense Service Medal Vietnam Service Medal and Expert M16. After his discharge he gradually made his way to Phoenix where he was employed by Burr Brown, Motorola, Mercury Research and InStat. He was happiest spending time with his shooting buddies at Rio Salado Sportman’s Club and had recently taken up autocross with SCCA. Both of these activities garnered him lifelong friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marian Kohn and Joseph Kohe. He is survived by his wife, Kathy Blazo-Kohn, his sister Georgia Barnett and her husband Tom Barnett, his step-son Erik Nelson and Erik’s partner Cheryl McRaven, his step-daughter Amanda Marlor and Amanda’s husband John Marlor, his nephew Jay Digravio and Jay’s two sons Jeshua and Jadon, his niece Kristen Thiem and her husband Daniel Thiem and their daughters Olivia and Lacey, his nephew Lucas Barnett and his wife Kelly and his 4 loving rescue kitties Sydney, Farley, Lizzie and Diesel. A date and time of a gathering of friends and family will be announced at a later date.
