Sandy Kaplan was born on March 30, 1947, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Seymour and Marilyn Kaplan. The family moved to Ohio when Sandy was 3 months old. He graduated from Cleveland Heights High School and attended Kent State University. He worked for IBM for 30 years and Progressive Insurance for 18 years until his retirement in 2013. Sandy enjoyed supporting the Cleveland Museum of Art and was a former member of Western Reserve Wheelers. He was a member of AARP. Sandy enjoyed cooking, computing, reading, bicycling, music, astronomy, Sudoku, bridge, backgammon, leather tooling and creating macramé hangings.
Sanford is survived by his wife of 30 years, Kathleen M. Kaplan (nee Gray) of Garfield Heights; children, Dana R. Herro (Bob) of Tallmadge and David A. Kaplan (Jennifer) of Lyndhurst; grandchildren, Simone Herro, Genevieve Herro, Jillian Kaplan and Lydia Kaplan; and mother, Marilyn S. Kaplan of Beachwood. He was predeceased by his father, Seymour Kaplan, and brother, Gerald A. Kaplan.
