In Memory

Harvey Simon

Harvey Zulman Simon was born in Cleveland.

He graduated from Cleveland Heights High School, George Washington University, and Georgetown Law School.

He is survived by his wife, Eileen (Biederman) Simon; his children, Rachel (Karen Schechner), and Adam Simon; as well as his sister, Phyllis Mirsky (Ed); his brother, Ralph Simon (Sharon); and over 100 cousins. Harvey used to say that he had a cousin in every town and he wasn't kidding.

Harvey spent his legal career first as the Director, Litigation Division, Office of General Counsel at the Federal Home Loan Bank Board in Washington, D.C., then as General Counsel at both Empire of America Bank in Buffalo, N.Y. and the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas.

He loved sports and played softball for most of his adult life with the Temple Shalom Brotherhood Softball league in Dallas and Silver League Softball in Barberton, Ohio. He also played tennis weekly with his dear friends.

He volunteered and worked with children at the Vogel Alcove in Dallas. In the past 12 years he served kids at Providence House, Big Brothers, the iCARE program in Akron Public Schools, the Lebron James Family Foundation, and also served as a Court Appointed Special Advocate representing children in court.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lea and Alan Simon; and his nephew, Seth Mirsky.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Vogel Alcove in Dallas (vogelalcove.org) or the Silver League of Barberton (3116 Lake Beach Blvd., Akron, OH 44319).

A passionate sports fan, his life was bookended by a Cleveland Browns championship two months after his birth and a Cleveland Cavaliers championship eighteen months before his death. Throughout it all he was a champion for colleagues, children, friends, and family.
