David Sherman was my classmate at both Roxboro El. and Jr. It was widely accepted that he was the smartest in the class. Our 5th grade class (Miss Goutras) put out a newspaper on a regular basis .One edition had me as the "reporter" that asked a man on the street question. I asked, "what is the definition of the word eon?" No one answered it correctly, but got to have their name listed in the publication, along with their wrong answer. David's answer should have been counted as correct, though! He gave me the definition of ion, rather than eon! Spelling shouldn't have counted. A boy of ten in 1957-58 that knew about atoms and particles and ions - what might he have accomplished for this world if we still had him with us.
